Turkish National Education Minister Nabi Avci said they accepted the demand to open a school for Greek minority on Gokceada, an island off northwestern Canakkale province. Avci told AA on Thursday that a school for Greek minority, which had been opened on Gokceada in 1951, was closed in 1964 upon the will of the founder. Now, upon an application, the Ministry accepted the demand to re-open the school in the same building, said Avci, adding that Private Gokceada Greek Elementary School was allowed to be opened as of today. Meanwhile, since 2011 till today, four of the Greek schools in Istanbul have been shut down upon a request by their founders.
