United Development Company (UDC) has sponsored a Consultancy Project by Qatar Foundation students aiming to empower young minds in the fields of business and innovation. Participating students included VCU Qatar design majors and engineering majors from Texas A&M University in Qatar. Each consultancy group was tasked to create a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign for The Pearl-Qatar following a thorough presentation of the project model, as well as the environment and CSR programmes. In addition to a written proposal, each team presented to UDC’s Corporate Communications Department recommendations for a feasible, sustainable and strategically relevant CSR project to implement at The Pearl-Qatar. Students suggested projects to further United Development Company’s responsibility toward its stakeholders by contributing positively to the community. Areas addressed included education, tourism, environment, arts and culture, charity and community development. A project will be selected for further research by UDC’s CSR team to be considered for adoption as part of the company’s CSR strategy and plans for the Island. Solar LED street lighting, clothing bins for charity, 3D model competition from recyclable material, hot air balloon station, aqua learning and marine conservation center are a few examples of projects proposed by the students. “By accepting submissions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project ideas from Qatar Foundation students and implementing viable proposals, UDC hopes to encourage in Qatar’s future leaders the values of social responsibility, the importance of community welfare, and the spirit of self-empowerment,” said Ebrahim Al-Sulaiti, chief executive officer of United Development Company. This month, UDC has opened up its social media channels. Through opening up those channels, the company aims to interact more responsively with the public, by promoting a rich exchange of ideas and suggestions, paving the way to a range of added value CSR projects.
