The Ministry of Education has started implementing the second stage of its virtual labs project for chemistry and physics. The project should cover 1,720 schools around the country during the current academic year. The project is part of the King Abdullah Project for the Development of Education (Tatweer) that aims to merge technology and education. During the first stage of this project, the ministry covered 1,108 schools in 36 cities last year. The stage also provided a training workshop in Riyadh for 150 educational supervisors from around the country as well as 46 workshops for teachers on the most efficient use of virtual labs. The ministry organized meetings for school lab teachers to educate them about merging the use of traditional and virtual labs. The ministry’s General Administration for School Equipment issued a procedure guide that includes the standards for the implementation of virtual labs in education to ensure the labs are fully benefited from.
