Dubai to host 8th GCC conference

Dubai is set to host the 8th GCC Conference on Learning Disability on 12th and 13th November at Taj Palace Hotel, under the slogan, "Learning Disability: A Whole Life Approach".
The event is hosted by Ishara Consultants Co. based in Dubai and aims to share industry knowledge to aid development within the learning disability care sector.
Maalainain Salama, CEO of Ishara, said, "This conference will bring together people from across the learning disability sector in the region. It will be attended by those with learning disabilities where guests will have the opportunity to be challenged and think about the future." "It is an honour to host this event in Dubai where we are committed to educating future health care professionals on working with people with learning disabilities and their families with compassion and kindness," Salama added.
The event will also be attended by representatives from across the GCC who will share their experiences and struggles for equality and respect for people who have learning disabilities.
Judy Hornigold, BSc, PGCSpE, AMBDA – UK, one of the speakers, said, "Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that results from a difference in the way a person's brain processes information. Children with learning disabilities are as smart as or smarter than their peers, but they may have difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, reasoning, recalling, organising information etc.. The effects of dyslexia, in fact, vary from person to person, and there is a great deal of individual variation that determines academic success." To address some of the more recent trends in research and practice, the 8th GCC Conference on Learning Disability will focus on the methods that contribute towards creating a dynamic future for the individual with a learning disability.
