Six young women were seriously injured early Friday when their SUV hit a tree in Los Angeles as they apparently returned home from a night on the town. Firefighters said five of the women were thrown from the vehicle and the sixth had to be extricated from the wreckage. \"All six patients were young-adult females and unfortunately, each sustained what appeared to be life-threatening injuries,\" Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence said in a written statement. \"They were each rapidly transported to local hospitals in critical condition.\" KCBS, Los Angeles, said the women, who had been dressed in what firefighters called \"club attire,\" were all listed in serious condition at area hospitals. Investigators also discovered empty bottles at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 2:45 a.m. PST in the city\'s Hyde Park district. Police told KCBS it appeared the vehicle struck a curb and crashed into the tree.
