ALGIERS- The speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, said Wednesday that Algeria has come a long way in the promotion of women’s rights and the establishment of equality.Algeria has made “big achievements” in promoting women’s rights and the establishment of equality, surpassing developed countries in some cases, said Ould Khelifa, who chaired the opening of the parliamentary day on “women’s socio-economic rights.”The Algerian woman’s accomplishments in many fields are the results of a “long struggle.”She militated with men during the war of liberation and was a partner in the construction of the country since independence (1962), Lower House’s speaker said.Samila Othmani, Lower House’s deputy speaker in charge of communication, culture and training said that “women need support” to accomplish her role in professional and domestic plans, ensuring structures to facilitate the matter.The meeting was organized by the Assembly’s Committee on Legal, Administrative and Freedom Affairs, in collaboration with the ministry of National solidarity, Family and Women Affairs under the theme “women’s socio-economic rights.”
