A delegation from the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has praised the efforts of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and Extraordinary Ambassador of the FAO, on promoting women's development, and mother and child health-care. The delegation also lauded Sheikha Fatima on her continuous support of FAO projects. The remarks were made during a visit paid by the FAO delegation members chaired by Dr. Thomas Perry Peru, agricultural expert of the FAO, to the General Women's Union, where they were received by Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Mansour, advisor to the GWU, and other officials. The visitors discussed with GWU officials the initiatives launched by Sheikha Fatima, including, among others, a project to improve school children's nutrition with a view to fight obesity. The two sides also tackled the building of women's capacity in the areas of agriculture and animal resources. Earlier, the GWU had signed an MoU with the FAO to hold a series of workshops to rehabilitate women. The FAO delegation commended the progress attained by women, especially in the areas of education, health and occupation of leading and technical posts.
