Iran welcomes Russian proposal to place the chemical weapons found in Syria under international control, Marzieh Afkham, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman said Tuesday. “We’re viewing this step in the context of efforts to avert any military action against Syria,” Ms Afkham said. She indicated that Teheran “speaks in favor of clearing the region of the weapons of mass destruction.” “These efforts should also embrace the chemical weapons at the disposal of Syrian insurgents,” Ms Afkham said.
