Tehran - FNA
A senior Iranian legislator underlined that Washington\'s withdrawal from its war plans against Damascus will reinvigorate the Syrian army in its fight against the terrorist Takfiri groups. \"The US withdrawal from its war plan against Syria will weaken the terrorists and strengthen the Syrian army and people against the Takfiris,\" Fatemeh Alia told FNA on Sunday. She stressed that the pressures exerted by the public opinion and the resistance front\'s firm resolve to respond to any military attack on Syria was the main reason behind the US giving up the Syria invasion, and said the Zionists were also aware that in case of a military attack on Syria, the resistance front\'s missiles will rain on the occupied territories. After US President Barack Obama gave up his war rhetoric against Damascus due to a Russian initiative for the voluntary dismantlement of Syria\'s chemical weapons, the Syrian army has once again picked up a high speed in its operations against the foreign-backed militants across the country. Yesterday, the Syrian army killed tens of militants in cleanup operations in Reef (countryside of) Aleppo in Northern Syria on Saturday. The army attacked the gathering centers of al-Qaeda-linked terrorists in Abu Zohur region of Reef Aleppo. Tens of terrorists were killed and Dozens more were injured in heavy clashes. Meantime, the Syrian army thwarted the armed rebels\' attack on a military airport in the region. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. The western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- have frequently underlined their staunch support for the militants in Syria. As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists. Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
