Ukrainian parliament has voted on Thursday to raise the minimum age at which a woman can get married from 17 to 18. The bill was aimed at bringing the country’s laws into accord with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Ukraine joined in 1991. Now both Ukrainian men and women can marry as long as they are not under 18. As many as 259 deputies supported the bill with at least 226 votes needed for it to pass.
