A Congolese visitor has been accused of possessing Dh2 million in counterfeit banknotes in various currencies after she was discovered trying to smuggle them into Dubai in her luggage. Prosecutors accused the 32-year-old visitor of attempting to smuggle counterfeit US dollars and euros by hiding the banknotes inside three handbags. The woman, J.M, did not admit or deny the charges when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance because there had been no French language translator. According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said J.M. possessed and smuggled into the country 367 500 euro notes (around Dh9,743,850), 1,367 100 euro notes (around Dh725,877) and 931 $100 notes (around Dh342,608).
