A woman and girl suffered serious injuries after falling 40 feet from a chairlift at the Crotched Mountain ski area in New Hampshire, officials said. The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, WMUR-TV, Manchester, N.H., reported. Authorities said the victims were a mother and daughter, but their identities have not yet been released. Bennington Fire Chief Mike Roina said, "They don't have a lot of snow out there, so there's only 2, 3 inches at this time." One of the victims was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, while the other was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Hospital. Crotched Mountain General Manager Patrick Terry said it was unclear what caused the victims to fall from the chairlift. "What's important when you get on the chairlift is that you make sure you put the safety bar down," Terry said. "It's nearly impossible to fall out of the chair."
