The invention of pumping water using solar chimneys has ranked first at Al-Bassel Fair for Innovation and Invention.
The invention is created by Syrian engineer Ahmad Yousef Saleh from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at al-Baath University.
This invention won due to the uniqueness of the idea, which establishes a new form of optimal use of renewable energy.
Speaking to SANA, Saleh said that the solar chimneys are usually used to generate electricity where they caused several problems, but it is different when they are used in pumping water as they form an important and appropriate model for the effective conversion of energy and economic investment on a large scale as a simple and safe technology that does not require heights or large areas as in the generation of electricity.
He pointed out that the importance of his invention lies in the need for water with the availability of solar energy during the agricultural seasons and periods of increasing temperature.
“I designed a model for a 50 kilowatt solar chimney that can pump about 370 m3 of water daily throughout the year at a depth of 200 meter,” Saleh added.
He pointed out that the pumping water unit consists of four main elements which are a solar complex, chimney, wind turbine and pump.
