The tablet adoption by enterprise customers continued to grow over the second quarter of this year driven by substantial adoption of Apple\'s iPad 2, said a research released on Thursday. The trend of mobile devices infiltrating the workplace is being led by Apple\'s iPad over the second quarter, which saw more activations of the iPad than all Google\'s Android smartphones and tablets combined, said a report by Good Technology, which provides mobile device management services to 49 of the Fortune 100 and 182 of the Fortune 500 companies. The report said 27 percent of the mobile devices activated by its enterprise customers during the second quarter of 2011 were tablets, of which 95 percent were iPads. Despite its overall market share growth, tablets powered by Google\'s Android operating system declined to 3.1 percent of overall tablet activations for the second quarter, and Android smartphones represented nearly 33 percent of all smartphone activations compared to iPhone\'s 66 percent. During its latest earnings call on Tuesday, Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer said the company has seen iPad used in the enterprise in ways they could have never imagined with 86 percent of the Fortune 500 companies deploying or testing iPad in the second quarter of 2011. Also on Thursday, a latest report from research firm Strategy Analytics showed that global tablet shipments reached 15 million units in the second quarter of 2011. Apple maintained first position with 61 percent share and Android tablets accounted for 30.1 percent of tablet shipments, according to the report.
