The UAE Space Agency, in cooperation with the International Astronomical Centre in Abu Dhabi, has announced the organisation of a series of scientific lectures to raise public awareness about astronomy and space sciences.
The lectures, which will be held on weekly basis in Abu Dhabi, will feature a number of scientists and specialists in space and astronomy who will discuss a range of topics such as specifying prayer times, observing the crescent, identifying the beginning of Hijri months, solar and lunar eclipses, meteor showers, and observing astral bodies and identifying planets, stars and galaxies.
Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, said, "Raising social awareness about space and astronomy science is part of the agency’s strategic plans and efforts to build capabilities and enhance knowledge about space and astronomy among all parts of society. These lectures and their interactive scientific activities will allow public audiences and students to learn stunning insights about space which will increase their interest in the national space sector."
