Chinese celebrate National Day

Thursday is "Elderly Day" otherwise also known as the "Double Nine" festival comes on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month in the Chinese calendar and this year, that happens to coincide with the national day holiday.
The festival’s origin dates back to China’s Warring States Period, some 2,000 years ago. Traditional activities include climbing mountains, and eating special "double nine" cakes. The symbol of the festival is the chrysanthemum flower, and many like to drink chrysanthemum wine to celebrate.
It’s all about paying respect to one’s elders. Many volunteers and neighbors will pay special visits to old people living alone or in care homes, bringing food and organizing special entertainment.
