The Jury of the Fujairah International Photojournalism Competition (FIPCOM), which is organized by the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA) in cooperation with AFP-Services, has announced recently in Paris the winners of the first edition of the FIPCOM 2013. Five winners were chosen in the five following categories: news, environment, sport, economy, features. All entries submitted for the competition were illustrative of memorable events of 2013. Dozens of entrants have submitted their work on such varied themes as the Arab world's conflicts, the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the Taksim Square demonstrations in Turkey, as well as the major sports events of the year. The Grand Prize laureate and winners in each category have been selected by a jury of professionals. On the occasion of this first edition, the Awards Ceremony will be held in Paris on March 13th and the works of the FIPCOM winners will be exhibited at Les Docks - Cit? de la Mode et du Design, a multidisciplinary center focusing on culture and creation, located on the banks of Seine River. The architectural venue offers to the public an original exhibition format, letting visitors wander through passageways up to the rooftop and displaying the laureates' photographs in the light of its glass facade. ABDOLLAH HEIDARI, WINNER OF THE GRAND PRIZE OF FIPCOM'S FIRST EDITION Abdolla Heidari has won the grand prize for his set of five pictures documenting the fate of Iranian girls severely burnt in a school fire. His visually powerful images captured the moral and physical suffering of the young victims. MARTIN GUY, WINNER OF THE ECONOMY CATEGORY The winning photo shows a couple kissing on the shores of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, during the shooting of the successful Turkish soap opera "Revenge". STEEVE LUNCKER, WINNER OF THE FEATURES CATEGORY This winning feature focuses on the city of Yakoutsk, located in the north of Oriental Siberia, which is known for its winter temperatures that regularly reach minus 50 degrees Celsius. The city is engulfed in a thick and oppressive blanket of freezing fog that restricts visibility to 10 meters.
