Kom Oshim El Fayoum

Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anany inaugurated Thursday Kom Oshim Museum here after renovating and developing it as part of the Antiquities Ministry's plan to restore closed museums.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by former antiquities minister Mohamed Ibrahim, Fayyoum Governor Gamal Sami, number of ambassadors and leaders of the Antiquities Ministry such as the Head of the Museums Sector Ilham Salah and the Head of the Projects Sector Wadallah Abul Ella.

El Anany said that the inauguration of the museum aims at encouraging the international and domestic tourism, adding that Kom Oshim Museum was established in 1974 and its area was increased in 1993.

The museum was closed in 2006 for restoration, the minister underlined, noting that its renovation began at the beginning of the current year.

For her part, Salah said that the museum groups 320 artifacts some of which are showcased for the first time.

She further reiterated that the museum tackles the history of Fayyoum governorate, the traditions of its inhabitants since the old ages as well as their religious ideologies.

Salah underscored that a cooperation protocol will be inked with the Fayyoum University's Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management to organize cultural activities in the open area surrounding the museum which is an educational and cultural institution.

Abul Ella said that restoring the museum cost 650.000 pounds which was offered by the Antiquities Ministry.
