Ramallah - Arab Today
President Mahmoud Abbas arrived on Tuesday in Washington, where he is scheduled to meet with his United States counterpart Donald Trump for talks on reviving the peace process with Israel.
Abbas is scheduled to be greeted by US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, National Security Adviser General Herbert Raymond McMaster and senior US officials.
The President’s visit to the White House will include a bilateral meeting with Trump, followed by a reading of the two press statements by the two presidents at the VIP Roosevelt Hall and another extensive meeting between the presidents and their teams at the White House.
Abbas will also meet with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and a number of U.S. dignitaries. He will also meet with a delegation of representatives of the Palestinian community in the United States and a number of leaders of the Jewish community, as well as with Arab ambassadors in Washington.
Abbas’s visit to Washington comes 100 days after the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States. The President’s meeting with Trump is one of the early meetings held between U.S. Donald Trump with presidents of countries of the world.
According to analysts and observers, this visit is particularly important in light of the hunger strike of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, which has been going on for 16 days.
