Kuwait City - Arab Today
UN chief Ban Ki-moon expressed appreciation for Kuwait's global humanitarian efforts, particularly those of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Monday. The encounter, which also discussed cooperation between the Kuwaiti parliament and the international body, was held on the sidelines of the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
Ban shed light on His Highness the Amir's honouring as a UN 'Humanitarian Leader' last year, in appreciation of the Kuwaiti leader's support of global efforts to provide relief and assistance to millions of disaster and conflict-stricken peoples around the world. The UN Secretary General had earlier announced the launch of the parliamentarian talks, which end on September 2, with a speech underlining that the world faces the challenge of ensuring peace, security, sustainable development and human rights.
For his part, Kuwait's parliament chief Al-Ghanim is set to deliver his own speech a day later during his attendance of the talks held at the UN Headquarters alongside MPs Yousef Al-Zalzala, Abdullah Mayouf and Saif Al-Azmi
