Assistant Foreign Minister for Neighboring Countries' Affairs Osama el Majdoub met Wednesday with European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Fernando Gentilini and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting took up the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, the internal situation in Israel and their impact on reviving the Middle East peace process.
Gentilini stressed on the union's stance pertaining to establishing two independent states and its keenness on consulting with the regional countries topped by Egypt for its pivotal role in the region.
For his part, el Majdoub underlined that Egypt puts the Palestinian cause at the top of its priorities and consults with the Palestinian side as well as the international and the Arab parties especially in light of its efforts exerted to benefit from its permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to push forward peace.
