Egyptian Minister of Awqaf Mohammad Mokhtar Gomaa held talks with the vice-president of the European Parliament for East Affairs on Egypt's role in establishing bases for dialogue, combating terrorism and extremism which has become a growing threat worldwide.
The minister's meeting with the European official came on the fringe of his participation in the World Conference on Religious Minorities, currently in session in Morocco.
During the meeting, an agreement has been reached to hold an expanded session of dialogue at the Egyptian Awqaf Ministry within the coming days including top officials from the European Parliament, EU religious affairs officials, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the European Union as well as members of the religious committee at the Egyptian House of Representatives.
The Egyptian minister reviewed the efforts exerted by Egypt to renew the religious discourse and the interest of the political leadership in combating terrorism and extremist thoughts.
He also reiterated the necessity of beefing up Arab-European cooperation to deter terrorism and protect the rights of Islamic communities in European countries through partnership and joint cooperation.
