During its 25th meeting of the board of directors and the 33rd general assembly session of the Islamic Chambers, the participants

His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received on Wednesday heads of the delegations taking part in the 33rd Islamic Chambers General Assembly meeting and the 25th meeting of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) Board of Directors which were hosted by the Sultanate in the presence of Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamil, Chairman of ICCIA.

After welcoming the guests, Sayyid Fahd reviewed the Sultanate’s experience in supporting the private sector and providing it with all potentials for its development and promoting its activities to be an effective player with the government in the comprehensive development process in Oman. 

Sayyid Fahd also expressed the appreciation of the Sultanate, under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the important role played by ICCI as an organisation that promotes cooperation among its 57 members in commerce, insurance, re-insurance, navigation and banking sectors, as well as in industrial and agricultural projects, human resources development, promotion for investment opportunities, increasing the inter-trade and enhancing competitiveness capabilities at the world market. The meeting touched on the importance of collaboration of all efforts to activate the joint cooperation amongst Islamic and commercial chambers, encouraging the private sector to expand commercial and investment relations, benefiting from the training programmes on the available business opportunities to continue the economic development fields, and developing entrepreneurship, especially among youths and women and the support for SMEs.

On their part, the heads of the delegations expressed appreciation for the Sultanate for hosting the two meetings and for the good preparations which will contribute to many positive results. They also raised appreciation and gratitude to HM the Sultan and hailed the multiple achievements made in the Sultanate.

The meeting was attended by Said bin Saleh al- Kyoumi, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Board meeting

Earlier, during its 25th meeting of the board of directors and the 33rd general assembly session of the Islamic Chambers, the participants unanimously approved renewing the confidence and chairmanship of Saleh Abdullah Kamel as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the next term.

They also agreed that the deputies of the chairman who are representing the chambers of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey will remain at the Board of Directors for the next term.

The Board also agreed to increase the number of board members from 17 to 19. It also discussed planning for offering a number of investment projects for the countries that host the meetings of the board and approve them during that meeting.

They also agreed to hold next meeting in Indonesia and approved the minutes of the 33rd meeting of the general assembly, as well as the 58th report of the financial committee of the Islamic Chambers which was held under the chair of Dr. Saud bin Abdul Aziz al- Mashari, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

On the sidelines of the meeting, said bin Saleh al- Kyoumi, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board of Directors met with Dr. Amina al- Harsi, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uganda, Refat Ughlo, Chairman of the Turkish Chambers Union, Al Aian Nael al Kabariti, Chairman of Jordan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chairman of Mali Chamber and the Chairman of Cyprus Chamber.

The meeting discussed means of enhancing communications between OCCI and these chambers which in turn will enhance partnership and investment between private sector in the Sultanate and these countries.
