Anti-corruption

The 1st Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption kicked off early on Sunday at the headquarters of the Arab League (AL) in Cairo.

The gathering is held under Kuwaiti Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al Sanea.

Sanea said the conference aims to support Arab countries in their fight against corruption to help them maintain security and stability.

"The bylaw of the conference was finalized," Sanea said at the opening session, adding that a chairperson will be elected for each session of the conference.

AL Assistant Secretary General for Legal Affairs Wagih Hanafi urged Arab countries to take "constructive steps" to fight corruption.

The two-day conference will witness the adoption of the bylaw of the conference and election of the conference's sub-office, he noted.
