Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Wednesday with a number of leaders of political powers in Lebanon, Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
During his visit to Beirut, Shoukry met with Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, and former president and leader of Kataeb Party, Abu Zeid said.
The Egyptian top diplomat conveyed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s support to Lebanon's stability in the various fields, hoping that a national coalition government would be formed to preserve the Lebanese state institutions.
Shoukry also extended an invitation to Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to visit Egypt soon.
"The visit to Lebanon is to convey a message to President Aoun from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, as well as to congratulate him on the achievement made through the election of a president of the Lebanese republic," Lebanon's National News Agency cited Shoukry as saying, and renewed Egypt's support for the "political course" in Lebanon.
The talks held with different political leaders reaffirmed Egypt’s interest in supporting Lebanon politically in the current phase.
