Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Saturday with Portugal's former prime minister António Guterres and Macedonia's former foreign minister Srgjan Kerim.
Guterres and Kerim, both are candidates for the UN secretary general post, asserted keenness on contact and coordination with Cairo to secure its support in the race of the UN top position, said Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry.
Egypt is a member of the 15-seat UN Security Council, the body to select the next UN chief.
They stressed Egypt's role in addressing regional and international issues, said the spokesman.
