 Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Monday Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid said Monday.

The visit comes as part of coordinating efforts with Egypt being the current chair of the UNWTO executive council, he added.

The meeting addressed ways to enhance cooperation between the Egyptian government and UNWTO, especially with regard to the promotion for Egypt as a tourist destination and the role of Egyptian embassies worldwide in this respect, the spokesman said.

For his part, the UNWTO secretary-general asserted the importance of supporting Egypt in the face of terrorism at the international level.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.
