Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, on Wednesday met with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Elizabeth Richard, over the current general situation in Lebanon and the broader Arab region.

During the meeting, Qabalan maintained that Muslim Shias were moderate and that they were confronting the Takfiri and Zionist terrorism.

"Muslim Shias have ties of friendship and cooperation with the American people. They are no terrorists; they are the spearhead in the battle against terrorism, especially in Lebanon, where they are keen on preserving unity and stability, and they support the Lebanese army and institutions," he stressed.

He also called the U.S. Administration for equity and equality while dealing with the oppressed people, especially in Yemen and Palestine
