Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in New York, where he will attend the 70th UN General Assembly session, TASS reported Saturday.
His agenda consists of more than 50 events, including multilateral and bilateral talks. Lavrov is scheduled to meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly he will have meetings with US Secretary of State, NATO’s Secretary-General, the EU’s High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the president of Cyprus, the leaders of Germany, China, Iran, Syria, Brazil, Greece, Mexico, Slovenia, Cuba, Finland, Algeria, and Switzerland the secretaries-general of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," the source said.
Also, there will be ministerial level meetings of the BRICS group, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
On September 27, Lavrov will speak at the UN summit for the post-2015 global development agenda. There are plans for a meeting of the quartet of international mediators for the Middle East settlement (Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union).
The central event of Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council will be a ministerial level meeting on measures to maintain international peace and security settle conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa and conduct the struggle against the terrorist threat.
