President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Wednesday with visiting German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière.
Egyptian Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar was present at the meeting.
Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said the German minister conveyed the greetings of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to president Sisi.
He also praised the significant role played by Egypt in the Middle East region.
Germany is keen on bolstering ties with Egypt in all fields, especially in the security and tourism sectors, the German minister said.
Sisi, for his part, asked the German minister to convey his greetings to Merkel and praised stances taken by Germany in support of Egypt.
Egypt seeks to boost relations with Germany at all levels, he said.
Sisi stressed the importance of enhancing security cooperation between the two countries to face common threats, especially terrorism.
The two sides tackled also the refugee crisis and the latest developments in Syria and Libya.
