President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday met with Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati.
Presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said the meeting dealt with canals clearing efforts, and the ongoing campaigns to remove encroachments on the Nile in cooperation with the governorates.
The spokesman added that the president ordered to continue the campaigns to remove encroachments and clear the waterways to ensure the flow of water, as well as improving the quality of drinking and irrigation water.
The minister reviewed his ministry's plans aiming at raising the efficiency of the irrigation system and improving water quality.
He also reviewed plans to use the treated water as a source to meet the scarcity between available water resources and growing needs, the spokesman said.
He added that Sisi stressed the importance of tightening controls that ensure the safe use of the treated water.
The meeting also tackled the ministry's rationalization of water consumption plans, both in terms of of the homes, agriculture and irrigation consumption.
Also, the minister briefed Sisi on the ministry's plan to cope with the floods across the country along with the plans to deal with the climatic changes regarding the protection of beaches.
