Egypt will host the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD/COP 14) in 2018, said Environment Minister Khalid Fahmi.
The decision was taken by the participants in activities of the 13th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD/COP 13) in the Mexican city of Cancun.
In a statement by the Environment Ministry on Wednesday, the minister, in his word at the conference, said that the collective work among the environment, foreign and tourism ministers was behind the participants' consensus agreement on Egypt's hostING of the conference.
Egypt will be the next African nation to host the CBD/COP. Kenya hosted the event in May 2000.
The 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity was held in Pyeongchang on October 6 - 17, 2014.
From 1994 to 1996, the Conference of the Parties held its ordinary meetings annually. Since then these meetings have been held somewhat less frequently and, following a change in the rules of procedure in 2000, will now be held every two years.
