Syrian refugees

The third non-governmental donors' organizations conference will kick off here on Monday, organized by the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) with the participation of more than 100 local, regional and international organizations and 140 charity personalities.
The conference will convene one day ahead of the third International Humanitarian Donors’ conference for Syria on Tuesday, under the auspices of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jabir Al Sabah.
International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) Director General Salem Hamada said the organization invited scores of local, regional and international organizations to announce their pledges and aid programs during the conference.
The State of Kuwait has hosted the first and the second international conferences of donors to support the humanitarian situation in Syria in January 2013 and 2014.
The value of the pledges in the first conference was $1.5 billion, including $300 million from Kuwait, while the value of pledges from the second conference last year was 2.4 billion dollars, including $ 500 million from Kuwait.
Since 2011, thousands of Syrians have fled to neighboring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and even Iraq to escape the conflict in their country, causing a substantial economic burden on those countries, calling for support and assistance to relieve the burden of hosting refugees.
