Julia Roberts has been cast alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Chiwetel Ejiofor in The Secret in Their Eyes.
The film is an English-language remake of Argentine director Juan Jose Campanella's 2009 movie of the same name. The 46-year-old actress will star in a role rewritten specifically for her by writer and director Billy Ray.
The original, Spanish-language feature won a 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language Film. The story follows a retired judiciary employee and judge with romantic history who reunite and resume work on an unsolved 1974 rape and murder.
Ray is best known for writing The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips screenplays, and previously directed Breach and Shattered Glass. Mark Johnson and John Ufland will produce the project.
Roberts last appeared in HBO movie The Normal Heart, and Paltrow is scheduled to star alongside Johnny Depp in Mortdecai. Ejiofor will appear in Z for Zachariah and Triple Nine in 2015.
