Singer and actor Ludacris

Rapper/actor Chris "Ludacris" Bridges is to perform on Wednesday's opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, organizers announced.

The show is to take place at the Beacon Theatre and will follow the world premiere of the documentary Live From New York!, which explores 40 years of the famed sketch-comedy series Saturday Night Live.

"This year's Tribeca Film Festival is a true celebration of the convergence of music and film and Ludacris is an artist who embodies that cultural collaboration," Paula Weinstein, executive vice president of Tribeca Enterprises, said in a statement Friday. "As both a TFF and SNL alum, he is the perfect entertainer to help us open the festival and celebrate a beloved institution."

"Appearing on Saturday Night Live -- both as a host and a musical guest -- were some of the most thrilling moments of my career," added Ludacris. "I'm excited to be a part of this premiere and the Tribeca Film Festival opening night. As a storyteller through music and acting, it is especially meaningful for me to participate in an event that is centered on spotlighting great stories."

Ludacris can now be seen on the big screen in the blockbuster Furious 7.
