Miles Morales

Miles Morales will join the main Marvel universe as Spider-Man.

The character assumed the superhero's mantle in the Ultimate book series, and will replace Peter Parker in an official canon series scheduled for release in the fall.

Morales first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 in 2011, which takes place in an alternate universe. The character is of African-American and Puerto Rican descent, and possesses similar powers, including superhuman strength and "Spidey-senses," to Parker.

"Our message has to be it's not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it's the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else," writer and co-creator Brian Bendis told the New York Daily News.

"Miles will be the Spider-Man that is trying desperately to balance his life as a high school student and his super hero career," he shared in an interview with Marvel. "He will be the character that is wrestling with power and responsibility in a very raw way."

Marvel will relaunch the Spider-Man film series for a third time with a yet-to-be-announced star. Tobey Maguire portrayed Parker in three Spider-Man movies, while Andrew Garfield took over for The Amazing-Spiderman and its sequel.
