Paul Reubens says Judd Apatow will produce the next movie featuring Reubens' iconic character Pee-wee Herman.
Reubens, 62, offered a few details about the long-gestating project during a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last Wednesday.
"Judd Apatow is producing it," Reubens said. "We hired a director -- I can't say yet -- but we've hired a director and we're going to start in February."
The plot and other cast members were not disclosed.
Reubens said of the film to Rolling Stone in October, "It's been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced."
The comedian played the title character in the 1985 cult classic comedy Pee-wee's Big Adventure and its 1988 sequel Big Top Pee-wee, as well as in the children's program Pee-wee's Playhouse and numerous stage incarnations. He took a break from his alter-ego for several years after he was arrested for indecent exposure at an adult movie theater in 1991.
