The American blockbuster Suicide Squad began its first weekend at the box office

The American blockbuster Suicide Squad began its first weekend at the box office strongly, bringing in a total of $135.1 million in North America alone.
The film set a new record for an August opening, bearing Marvel's 2014 blockbuster hit "Guardians of the Galaxy."    Overseas, the film earned bringing its global total to more than $267 million. It was also the best box office performance of a movie starring Will Smith. I am Legend held that previous record when it brought in $77.1 million in 2007.
Despite the record revenues, the film was subjected to bad reviews from film critics. It is the second time this year that a Warner Bros. super hero movies suffers that fate. The previous one was Batman Vs. Superman. It also started the weekend strongly, bringing in $166 million, but it suffered a 70% drop in revenue in the second weekend.
A similar pattern was noticed with Suicide Squad, as ticket revenues on Saturday were 41% lower compared to Thursday and Friday.
The film's budget is estimated at $175 million.
