When his grandchildren asked him to "read a book in your head," Col. James R. Stewart, Jr. composed the George stories as well as several others for their amusement. His children have compiled these three stories in his memory hoping that other children may also enjoy them. “The Adventures of George the Turtle” (published by Xlibris) is a collection of three short stories about George the turtle, his adventures at the circus, ice skating, and fishing.
In the first story, since school was over, George is allowed by his parents to go on a trip to the circus together with his friend Elfin the Elephant. The circus is playing nearby and as he sped around a corner of one of the tents he ran right into a man carrying a large bundle of small boxes. The man tripped over George and the boxes flew in all directions. Suddenly, George realized that he is already inside the box. He had been sold by mistake as one of those circus turtles. How will he ever get out of it?
In the second story, George goes fishing in the pond with his dad. While waiting for their catch, George’s dad falls asleep. Suddenly, George finds himself speaking to one of the fishes. It hoped George and his father would not stay there because one of his friends might get hungrier than usual and bite on their hook. Then he will lose one of his fish families. Will George continue on fishing?
In the third story, George went outside of their house to play in the snow. While playing, he came up with an idea on cleaning the sidewalk of snow. Once it is cleaned, he is joined by his friends as they do some ice skating. George and his friends had a lot of fun in the snow.
“The Adventures of George the Turtle” is a colorful, illustrated book for children and their imaginations. It is one they will truly enjoy.
