Assistant Secretary General for economic affairs of the Arab League (AL) Kamal Hassan Ali

Assistant Secretary General for economic affairs of the Arab League (AL) Kamal Hassan Ali presided over Wednesday a meeting about the Arab stance towards the European Union (EU) bill about the unfair airline competition.

The meeting was attended by the directors of Arab civil aviation authorities, the Arab Parliament and Association of the Arab Airlines.

In press statements, he said that the EU bill will harm some of the Arab airlines, therefore the Arab efforts should be coordinated to face this bill.

He added that the directors issued number of recommendations and put a unified strategy, which will be applied at the level of AL and the Arab Parliament. Another meeting will be held within two weeks in the AL headquarters.

Ali noted that the Arab moves will be taken through direct communication with the European Parliament and the European Commission, pointing out that every Arab airline competes the European side, particularly the Gulf aviation companies and the new EU bill will badly affect some Arab airlines.

Earlier, the European Union proposed new rules to more effectively tackle alleged unfair competitive practices by foreign airlines as it seeks to ensure European carriers can withstand fierce competition overseas.
