Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday headed the annual meeting of the Alexandrina Library Board of Trustees in the presence of former presidents of Romania, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Albania, Latvia and Serbia, and the former Prime Ministers of the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with number of high ranked figures, foreign and Egyptian scientists and intellectuals.
The official spokesman for the presidency, Alaa Youssef said that, al-Sisi said a speech at the beginning of the meeting thanking the head of Alexandria Library, Ismael Serag El Din for his efforts and devotion, and welcomed the new director of the library, Mustafa Al Feky who will carry on the progress.
Al-Sisi confirmed that, Egypt is fighting terrorism by all means especially through spreading tolerance and accepting each other, praising the library’s role in fighting it through culture, science and wise thinking and its international projects across the world. He stressed on the importance to carry on building distinguished competencies capable of using the latest research tools and analytical techniques, and the need to establish a full center for humanitarian and strategic researches to study the Arab communities’ problems and find practical solutions for them.
He also praised the library project “Memory of the Arab World” which is considered the largest digital archive of documents, photographs, and other materials, in order to preserve the Arab heritage, and stressed on finishing the project of “Memory of Egypt” on internet so that, it includes senior scholars, intellectuals, thinkers and leaders of Egyptian society through the ages.
Members of the Board of Trustees expressed their graduate to the president continuous care of the library and his efforts to benefit from it as a cultural center in fighting terrorism and extremist thoughts. Everyone attended the meeting thanked Ismael Serag El Din for his work and congratulated Mustafa El Feky for his new position.
