Al-Douri was detained after raid on 'terrorist' suspects'

Special Iraqi forces arrested the nephew of banned Ba’ath Party chief Izzat al-Douri in south-eastern Tikrit on Saturday.
An Iraqi Ministry of Defence [MoD] source told Arabstoday that Abdelrahman
Mohammed Ibrahim al-Douri, the prominent Ba’athist’s nephew, was arrested along with a number of suspects wanted in connection with the Article 4 counter-terrorism law during the raid.
The raid targeted “places where terrorists are believed to be” in the al-Dour area of Tikrit, around 170 kilometres north of Baghdad, the source said.
The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, claimed: “The operation was based on accurate intelligence which indicated the involvement of the detainee in armed operations targeting Iraqi security forces." Al-Douri was later taken to a security centre for interrogation, the source added.
A video meanwhile emerged on Saturday appearing to show Izzat al-Douri, Saddam Hussein’s Vice-President, calling for the overthrow of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s government in front of a Hussein-era flag. Addressing demonstrators in Anbar province, al-Douri said: "Every city and region, all the Iraqi people, and every national and Islamic power is with you, and supports you in achieving your demands to overthrow the Persian Safavid alliance," Duri said.
The authenticity and date of the video has not yet been verified.
