CA Bizertin have threatened to withdraw from their Champions League match against al-Ahly
Officials at Tunisian football club CA Bizertin have been assured that the decision to drop the club from the final round of the domestic league competition would be reviewed, a club spokesperson has stated.
Bassam el-Zawawy told reporters that the review would be carried out by the Tunisian government, with a political ruling expected within the next 48 hours.
The spokesperson confirmed that the CA Bizertin administration had been in talks with governmental officials to annul the club's exclusion from the domestic league.
CA Bizertin board member Mahdy Bin Ghariba claimed that the Tunisian club had suspended all footballing activity at both the domestic and continental level, because it felt the football association was trying to undermine its efforts to win the Tunisian league.
He added that the former Tunisian champions may even withdraw from their upcoming African Champions League match against Egypt's al-Ahly.
The football association chose Club Africain to qualify for the last stage of the domestic League instead of Bizertin, despite the fact that both of them share the second place of their group table with the same points.
In the two-group competition, four of 16 teams play in the knock out stage, two from each group. The association said that Bizertin fixed a match with Olympique du Kef.
In protest at the decision, CA Bizertin fans rioted on the streets of Bizirte earlier this week.
