Nada Al Naqbi, Deputy Head of AWST's Supreme Organising Committee, Head of AWST’s Executive Committee and Tournament Manager, thanked the Egyptian Ministry
of Youth and Sports for their support highlighting the tournament and encouraging clubs and sports women from across Egypt to participate.
Al Naqbi said, “This exclusively Arab tournament has enjoyed great participation from Arab clubs in the first two editions, and we now wish to promote it further and wider for the third edition to attract the largest number of clubs and encourage as many as possible to be part of this sporting event, the largest women's sporting event in the Arab world.”
She added, “We have already held similar, successful press conference in Casablanca, Morocco where the media expressed interest in raising the profile of the tournament and in encouraging Moroccan clubs to take part. This is what we are aspiring to achieve through the Egyptian press conference to be held in Cairo.”
Al Naqbi added, “By organising press conferences outside the UAE we underscore the important role of the Arab media and this can be seen over the past two editions. By comparison only 50 media institutions covered of the first edition but by the second edition this figure had increased to 250 media institutions. An achievement that encouraged us to hold a press conference in Cairo in order to engage the influential Egyptian media to cover the 3rd Arab Women Sports Tournament.”
Al Naqbi revealed that the countries and clubs participating in AWST - Sharjah 2016 will be announced in the press conference, as the due date for the clubs to register via AWST’s website or via post mail was on January 07.
Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports and President of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports Council, Eng. Khalid Abdul Aziz, welcomed the opportunity to host the press conference, praising the trust of the UAE representatives in the Egyptian Media.
He said, “We support Arab women's sports, and will make every effort to ensure the press conference is a success and help ensure the participation of Egyptian clubs. This
will raise the tournament's competitive edge by increasing healthy competition between athletes, which is an essential step towards crowning Arab sportswomen on global podiums.”
The conference will feature a detailed presentation about the female sports journalists’ media forum under the theme "It is Your Turn", the first-of-its kind in the Arab world and taking place on February 04.
