Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, yesterday honoured winners of the 7th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2015.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at the Zayed Sports City, the event attracted more than 4,000 fighters from 86 countries.
Attending the concluding competition and award-giving ceremony were Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Khaled Al Nahyan, Chairman of Al Ain Football Club Company, Sheikh Faisal Al Qasimi, Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Deputy Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, Arif Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and a number of leaders of sports sector.
The Emirati fighters, who won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals, received commendation from Sheikh Nahyan.
On the margins of the final day of the championship, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs, signed a memorandum of understanding to organise local Jiu-Jitsu championships in centres affiliated to the Organisation in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region.
Under the MoU, the Federation would provide administrative and technical support to the Organisation's players to qualify them compete in championships organised by the Federation.
