Central market in Nouakchott

Central market in Nouakchott Looters have taken advantage of a public strike in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott to steal goods and commodities from the city\'s central market. Workers clashes amongst themselves during the strike, forcing riot police to intervene and restore calm.
Witnesses said that several gangs robbed shops in the main market, stealing expensive goods.
The central market shut its doors on Tuesday, and heavy security was deployed outside Sabkha and Mina markets, among the largest shopping malls in Mauritania.
Manual workers made the decision to go on strike after the government turned a blind eye to their demands of a pay rise, similar to that given to their counterparts in Nouakchott Port two weeks ago.
