Anne Hathaway, at the 2013 Oscar awards, held last week
Hollywood Actress Anne Hathaway has issued an apology to designer Valentino, after she ditched his dress in favour of wearing a pale pink Prada gown to this year’s Oscar
awards.
The 30-year-old star – who won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in Les Misérables – issued a formal statement to apologise for any “disappointment caused”.
"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans," said Hathaway.
"Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honour of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused."
While it's not been confirmed which Valentino dress she had originally planned to wear, according to online rumours she opted for the Prada dress because she feared the Valentino number would look too similar to the white lace Alexander McQueen dress, worn by her co-star Amanda Seyfried.
Hathaway has enjoyed a long relationship with Valentino - wearing a red gown by the house to the 2011 Oscars. Valentino Garavani enjoyed a skiing holiday with the actress and her husband over New Year and also famously created her one-of-a-kind wedding dress, describing her as: "like my daughter".
