Dubai - Arab Today
A hoodie will no doubt help you achieve a laid-back look. This one, by UAE-based brand 5ivepillars, is a favourite piece of mine and is versatile enough to go with anything for a casual day out. 5pillars is a modern streetwear brand built on the influence of Middle Eastern art. Most of their pieces are designed using Arabic art and literature. 5ivepillars was created by LA-based designer Farrukh Ershad, Amsterdam-based designer Emad Shaikh and UAE-based designers Ahmad Mekki and Ahmad Shareef, to bridge the gap between western design and eastern culture, while raising the bar for street fashion in the UAE. This particular piece is printed with the Arabic word for ‘love’. Pair your salmon hoodie with a miniskirt. Balance out the bagginess by tucking it into the skirt, or if you’re a bit on the braver side, just wear your hoodie over a posher midi dress for a cool contrast.
Hind Adib is a unisex street wear brand that focuses on breaking stereotypes and trends by sending messages of empowerment through painting vintage denim, creating unique pieces that are designed with a purpose, a story, and an experience. This denim jacket is one of their signature pieces, part of the X collection. I love the sassiness of this print and the oversized fit is so in right now.
Soul90 was founded by Yasmine Kassem and Karmel Abourah, who are both vintage lovers and collectors and both pretty much wish they could have stayed in the 90s. They’ve been collecting vintage clothing and jewellery for the past 10 years, and noticed a gap in the market. They also couldn’t believe how expensive is vintage clothing was. As a result they decided to create Soul90, a brand of affordable vintage clothing, so they can continue to collect the things they love, and help other vintage lovers stay connected to the 90s, just like they are. This piece, although from the 90s, is perfectly on trend today.
This brand is a long passion project of designer Shatha Ziad Takkouz. Her first collection and many of her current pieces pay tribute to the Damascene jasmine flower, mother of pearl and the tsavorite gem stone. The pieces pay homage to her Syrian roots but also touch on a contemporary design. This particular choker is lined with dangling pearls that add such a feminine touch to a woman’s décolletage.
