Exaggerated pinstripes and plunging lapels at the SM show
Stella McCartney’s lastest collection was unveiled this morning at Paris Fashion Week. Her Autumn/Winter ready-to-wear collection for 2013 seemed to focus on masculine
chic.
In homage to her Savile Row background, the collection was peppered with big coats, big shapes, exaggerated pinstripes and plunging lapels.
On one particular oversized blazer jacket featured one sweeping down lapel from the neck, while elsewhere pinstripes were incorporated into a halterneck or bustier detailing. It was a clever way to work the masculine into the feminine.
"Women have a masculine side and if you tap into that you find another part of yourself," the designer told Vogue.
"It's about being honest to what we are, timeless classics but also inserting femininity," she said.
These classics include the menswear fabrics for an extensive coat selection; the sportier side for easy sweatshirts, sweatshirt dresses (all of which came in pinstripe), and jumpsuits; and that sense of ease.
Of all the masculine-feminine mixes we've been seeing this season, this collection had a clever new take and it was all very Stella.
