President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, has affirmed Sudan commitment to realize universal health coverage based on Sudan vision to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Addressing sitting of the 65th session of the regional committee of the World Health Organization for the Middle East Region Monday at the Friendship Hall, President Al-Bashir has affirmed the keenness of Sudan government with public health and the health of citizens in implementation of their constitutional right and regardless of their economic and social situation.
He said that realization of health represents the key for combating poverty and achieving inclusive and sustainable development.
He indicated that the national health policy has stipulated the principle of common responsibility of all the state’s organs and the community on the public health.
President Al-Bashir affirmed that the government has formulated the policies and strategies and provided financial resources for reducing the child and maternal mortality rate, combating diseases, especially malaria and protecting families from the risks and financial risks through mechanisms and initiatives.
He said that the state has provided health centers and free of charge treatment at emergency sections and for caesarean delivery and cancer and kidney treatment… etc.
He indicated that 54% of the Sudanese citizens and 91% of the poor people are enjoying health insurance.
He said that Sudan has remained adopting the open-door policy by hosting more than one million refugees from South Sudan, Syria, Yemen and other countries.
He expressed Sudan appreciation of the support extended to it by the World Health Organization.
